Meet the Principal

Why are we doing this? As a student, I was always looking for relevancy and purpose. As an educator, I strive to develop learning experiences and environments that are authentic and engaging so that children never even think to ask that question. When I learned that GSES was making the shift to Expeditionary Learning, I jumped at the chance to lead the school in this transition. I began my career in education after graduating with a degree in History from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington in 1995. After graduation, I spent the summer working as the director of outdoor adventure at a camp in Minnesota. I found my career path while watching children discover and learn in such a natural, uninhibited way. In 1999, I obtained my Master’s of Education degree from the University of Minnesota with a focus on Elementary and Environmental Education and began my work in public schools. In Duluth, MN, I was a classroom teacher, teacher-educator and was a member of the founding team that opened a small high school with a project-based learning model. In 1998, I returned to Colorado to teach and lead at a project-based learning school in Ft. Collins, Colorado (my hometown). During this time I completed my work in Supervision and Evaluation from Colorado State University. I am now in my eight year as principal of GSES and continually inspired by the energy and joy our students, staff and families bring to our community everyday. I am proud to be a part of a school that is that is fueled by positive relationships, engaging learning and reflective growth. My husband Chris and I love living in the valley and think it is a fabulous place to raise our three teenage boys. We spend our time boating, hiking, fishing and love jamming on instruments! I recharge my batteries by taking long trail runs with friends and our dogs, Lacy and Monty.
